Mechanic Job

Hecker is a family owned electrical contracting company specializing in work within the Chicagoland area. We have been in business for 87 years. While small, we are able to bid against much larger competitors due to our well rounded employees. We have worked as a subcontractor for the largest Chicagoland construction companies including Walsh, F. H. Paschen, Lorig Construction Company, McHugh Construction, Dunnet Bay Construction Company and Plote. Hecker was one of the first companies to install traffic signals and street lighting for the City of Chicago. Ronald Burke Sr. went to work for Hecker in 1969 as a civil engineer and earned his MBA from the University of Chicago. He ultimately ended up purchasing Hecker in 1975. Now under the leadership of his 3 sons Art, Rob and Dan, Hecker continues to provide exceptional service for the most challenging projects.

 

Position Summary

Responsible to oversee and direct maintenance and repair activities on various pieces of heavy equipment including but not limited to:  light/heavy-duty truck and semi-tractors, excavators, bulldozers, cranes, material handlers, wheel loaders, forklifts and stationary plant equipment.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Diagnoses, services and repairs various systems that are found on pieces of heavy equipment such as mechanical and computer electronic controls, air brake system, transmissions both manual and power shift, diesel and gasoline engines and 12/24V electrical circuits.

  • Repairs and services undercarriages on track mounted equipment.

  • Services, diagnoses, repairs tandem drive axles, hydrostatic drive propulsion systems, heavy duty multi axle suspensions both spring and air bag.

  • General tune ups on diesel and gasoline engines. This includes running overheads, performance diagnostics, turbo boost, fuel rail settings and high/low RPM settings.

  • Diagnoses problems, disassembles units, repairs or replaces parts, and reassembles units

  • Union membership not required

 

Skills, Abilities and Experience Required:

  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5+ year's experience repairing and maintaining heavy machinery & will be able to work well others.

  • A strong background in troubleshooting electronics, engines, cooling systems, emissions systems and/or hydraulics is a plus.

  • Good written, oral & computer skills are essential.

  • Light computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office programs like Excel and Word

  • Strong diagnostic aptitude

  • Valid driver’s license

  • CDL A license is REQUIRED,

  • Good communication skills

  • Own hand tools preferred
